It was here in 1866 that the Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company was founded – the first condensed milk factory in Europe, started by the American Page brothers. In 1905 the company merged with Henri Nestlé to form the 'Nestlé & Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Co.', laying the foundation for one of the world's largest food companies. Even older is the Cham paper mill, whose origins go back to 1657 – the former 'Papieri' site is today being transformed into a lively new neighbourhood.
